This is a good example of how we created a garden that is perfect for the entire family. We applied our expert garden design services and soft landscaping experience to transform a field into a large residential garden fit for all the family. Our team helped create a seamless transition from inside to outside, bringing to life a lush and sophisticated garden as part of our luxury garden design package.
Our design focused on integrating the interior kitchen area with the garden. A limestone paving installation extends the living space and provides ample room for outdoor cooking and dining.
The client was also keen to include other luxury garden design features such as an electronic awning, outdoor heaters and outdoor Sonos sound system to enhance the space and complete the high end feel of the garden.
The garden is going great three years in and we are loving it - my favourite is the banana tree - it’s become my pet!— Anthony, Walthamstow E17
The soft landscaping rests on exotic feature planting in the form of mature cordyline australis and trachycarpus fortunei. The feature planting together with several large fatsia japonica, hydrangea macrophylla, and agapanthus bring a feel of exotic luxury to the garden design, while a complementary banana grove and canna lilies provide instant tropical impact.
Banana is susceptible to cold and wind, with hostile weather conditions easily tarnishing its fragile leaves.
As part of the soft landscaping design, the banana grove is slightly tucked into the side-return, providing some welcome shielding from the British weather.
The piece de resistance of the soft landscaping is a bespoke green wall filled with hostas, ferns and heucheras located in the depths of the side return. Placed in a position that receives enough light without being overexposed to intense rays, the green wall is a truly luxurious garden design feature which brings a touch of magic to an otherwise difficult to use space.
Green walls are particularly susceptible to attacks from snails and slugs. In order to disincentivise snacking behaviour, the footprint of the green wall is kept to a minimum. A series of alternating copper and aluminium rings are banded across the bottom of each post to create a small electric differential that keeps garden pests away.
I cannot exaggerate how pleased we were with the final result: it blended in the home office, incorporated all the elements we required, and at the same time enhanced the sense of space within the garden. Duncan & Jane, Clapton E5
