The client’s vision was to convert the once dilapidated garden into a creative landscape revolving around an entertainment hub.
We focused on hardscape features that allowed for multi-functional use with an outdoor bar and hard wearing but attractive brick patio. This met the needs of the client who wanted a space which is super easy to maintain, great to look at and suited to entertaining and parties, whilst her son could also use the space as a play area.
The upper structures of this courtyard garden are constructed in yellow balau, built to match the height of an existing brick wall on the right hand side. At the back, the hardwood fencing continues, coordinating with the height of the bespoke tiki bar and hiding the broken, mismatched trellis in the neighbouring garden.
A beautifully executed floating bench lends a touch of class to the creative landscape design, dual matched in its top face to the fencing as well as on its underside through use of reclaimed sleepers that blend into the raised planters they jut out from.
The planters were built in reclaimed railway sleepers to add colour contrast and durability, whilst also elevated in height so as to minimise plant damage when the garden is used for play.
One of the most important features of this hardscape garden design is the brick patio made of dutch clay pavers, which provide a lovely warm and stylish feel. They are super easy to clean, with debris swept directly into the flower beds.
All of you were so great, professional and kind. I wanted to thank you for listening to my needs and incorporating them into the garden design so well. Your advice and recommendations were perfect. I can’t stop singing your praises for the work you did in my garden. I am very happy and pleased with the craftsmanship and attention to detail. We have been out there a ton and are loving it!— Ashley, Hackney Central E9
To temper and break up the hardscape elements, planting was added to round off this courtyard garden. Phormium Tenax and Pittosporum were chosen for their structural beauty as well as their relative robustness to brush off attacks from stray balls.
Supplementary to the garden lighting design, a drop down tiki bar and metal furniture were either chosen or installed on behalf of the client. These final details complete the creative landscaping in this intimate and playful courtyard garden design.
