Create a timeless and relaxed feeling garden which will wear in rather than wear out, complete with outdoor wood fired pizza oven and barbecue to suit the family’s wish to entertain outside.
A combination of reclaimed bricks and tumbled sandstone in this patio garden design creates a warm and timeless circle of focus that is reminiscent of cobbled piazzas in sunny climes.
By breaking up the completeness of the circular paving motif it gives a well worn feel, recasting the space into a magically atmospheric garden. The circular paving design is mirrored upwards in the dome of the bespoke outdoor wood fired pizza oven and arches of the food preparation areas.
Adjacent to the outdoor kitchen is the dining and relaxation zone. Yellow balau decking was installed for its superior looks and characteristics to provide a suitable space for a large table, seating upwards of 10. The client wanted to transition seamlessly from the house to the garden, so the decking is built to sit at the same height as floor level inside the house.
Mature palms frame the garden pizza oven and food prep area, giving vertical and structural interest as well as softening the hard landscaping surrounds.
I can’t recommend Duncan and his team highly enough. Creative, professional, and fun to work with. Great design and construction too!— Claudia, Crouch End N8
A giant 3.5m tall oak pergola above the deck defines the outdoor dining area, as well as introducing screening and planting interest. The oak pergola is constructed without using any metal fixtures using the traditional draw peg technique, and this ensures that it has structural integrity to train wisteria up it and bear the increasing weight of the plant over many decades.
An off-centred brick path completes the hard landscaping and leads off into the deeper reaches of the garden. This is coupled with denser, more layered planting that forms a backdrop to the bustling entertaining zones. Here the design aims to create a more peaceful feel, using spike lights to augment the ambient mystery in the darker depths.
Two mirrors at the back of the garden again play with the light and frame a proud metal peacock, silently fanning its tail feathers in praise of its new found home in this unfamiliar but inimitable North London Garden Landscape.
I cannot exaggerate how pleased we were with the final result: it blended in the home office, incorporated all the elements we required, and at the same time enhanced the sense of space within the garden. Duncan & Jane, Clapton E5
